Best states for business: Arizona jumps 6 spots in Forbes' latest ranking

Arizona improved six places in Forbes' annual ranking of best states for business. Arizona was helped by growth forecasts and hurt by quality of life. North Carolina led the way. Alaska finished last.

Arizona's economy has been showing improvement in areas ranging from job growth to population increases, and the momentum got noticed in Forbes' latest ranking of state business climates.

Arizona improved six spots to 17th overall in the magazine's "best states for business" study.

Idaho also jumped six spots to No. 14 in the report, which looked at 41 variables in six broad areas — business costs, regulatory environment, labor supply, economic climate, growth prospects and qualify of life.

Arizona and Idaho tied for most improved.

"Arizona's economy is expected to expand at the second-fastest rate in the U.S.. through 2022," Forbes said in the mid-December report, basing that on forecasts for job, income, output and employment from Moody's Analytics.
